Renate

Pictured: Renate Michaelis sitting in her bedroom, ca. mid-1960s. She is surrounded by multiple cultural artifacts marking her as a young woman who keeps up with the times. She also has a somewhat rebellious streak, as evidenced by her jeans and the Beatles postcards by her pillow - both considered symbols of Western decadence in her home country! Could that explain her smirk?

This piece was something of an adventure in both compositing and drawing detailed backgrounds. As always, the most entertaining part of the process was covering everything in different textures and patterns.
